pre-week journaling
This is my last week of training before I leave for Wyoming. That will be most of my focus. I also want to work on the audits for my different websites.
thoughts for the week
I have been to REI so many times. My dividend next year is going to be great, but my entire first unemployment check has gone to REI. If REI has lifted their hiring freeze, I would love a job because an employee discount is the only way I can sustain this camping habit.
Of course, I also forgot something so I have to go back to REI. Again.
My hike this week had some incredible views. I carried in my full pack which is currently weighing in at 38 pounds. I have a few adjustments to make in terms of what to take out and what to add, but overall, it was manageable. I also tried trekking poles for the first time. What a game changer.
Then I slept in my tent in the backyard. The noise of the air conditioner and the motorcycles on the main road really set the mood, but overall it was a success! My sleeping mat stayed inflated, the tent kept out the rain, and my new zero degree sleeping back was way too hot when the overnight low is 60 degrees.
People keep asking if I'm nervous about this trip. Maybe a little? But they're giving me bear spray when I arrive, so what's there to be nervous about? In actuality, I'm really excited. I think it will be incredibly difficult and so, so worth it.
In the coding world, I'm weighing the trade offs between eking out better page speed in terms of the time spent. I'm doing this for a volunteer project and not overly concerned with cost. It would be interesting to collect some data, however, on time spent vs PageSpeed points gained vs SERP increase.
post-week journaling
The week is not quite over, but since I'm leaving early on Sunday, I'm posting early.
final calendar
what I accomplished this week
Physical activity, mostly. It was nice to get back into coding a little with some refactoring as well.
best thing that happened
I got to sit in club level seats at a baseball game. I've always wanted to do that. It was especially nice when it rained and I could go inside.
priorities for next week
Hike a lot. Restore a log cabin. Not get eaten by a grizzly bear.
